CIETAC is pleased to announce that Mr. Yu Jianlong, Vice Chairman and Secretary-General of CIETAC was elected on 4 December 2014 to the Governing Board of International Council for Commercial Arbitration (“ICCA”).  A list of potential candidates was compiled by ICCA’s Nominations and Membership Committee after canvassing all current Governing Board members for nominations. The Committee carefully considered the qualifications of each nominee and then recommended five widely recognized experts in the international arbitration world as candidates to the Governing Board for election. Mr. Yu will take office for a four-year term on 1 April 2015. At present, there are 39 Governing Board Members and 26 Advisory Members coming from 37 different countries. Mr. Yu is the only Governing Board member from an arbitration institution of China.


ICCA, established in 1969, is a worldwide nongovernmental organization (NGO) devoted to promoting the use and improving the processes of arbitration, conciliation and other forms of resolving international commercial disputes. Its activities include convening international arbitration congresses and conferences, sponsoring authoritative dispute resolution publications, and promoting the harmonization of arbitration and conciliation rules, laws, procedures and standards. At present, the number of ICCA members exceeds 950.


An ICCA Congress or Conference is held every second year for the presentation and discussion of papers on different aspects of international dispute resolution. These meetings attract a large number of participants from all parts of the world, and have made significant contributions to the development of dispute resolution theory and practice.


ICCA has official status as an NGO accredited by the United Nations. In that capacity, ICCA has participated actively in the preparation of the Arbitration Rules of the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law, the UNCITRAL Conciliation Rules, and the UNCITRAL Model Law on International Commercial Arbitration.


ICCA’s principal publications, prepared with the assistance of the Permanent Court of Arbitration at The Hague, include the Yearbook Commercial Arbitration, the International Handbook on Commercial Arbitration, and the ICCA Congress Series, consisting of the papers presented at the biennial congresses.


The ICCA consists of Governing Board Members and Members. Governing Board Members are recognized specialists in the field of dispute resolution.
